What is the technology used in Ambiators?

Ambiators uses the principle of two stage cooling of Air. The first stage cools air without adding water. In the second stage, limited quantity of water is used to cool the air further. Internationally this is called Two stage evaporative cooling or Indirect/ Direct Evaporative Cooling.

 
 

Are international references available?

Yes. A lot of research on two stage cooling has been done. Premier research organizations such as Lawrence Berkeley laboratory , National Renewable Energy lab. Of USA have carried out work in this subject. Links to these sites are:

How does the product work?
AMBIATOR is a low cost and low energy intensive alternative to conventional air conditioning. It works on the principle of Cooling Ambient air in two stages, namely, Indirect Evaporative Cooling and Evaporative cooling.
 
First Stage: Sensible Heat Exchanger -Indirect evaporative cooling module
Ambient air sucked through a 20 micron filter is pumped across a Heat recuperator consisting of a Cross flow Wet plate heat exchanger. In this stage, sensible cooling is done to reduce the temperature of air without adding moisture.
 
Second Stage: Adiabatic Heat Exchanger - Evaporative cooling module.

The pre-cooled air (cooled in the first stage) is passed through an evaporative cooling module, where part of the sensible heat is converted into latent heat

What are the various applications of Ambiators?

How is Ambiator Eco friendly?
Regular Air conditioning systems use Ozone depleting CFC's. Ambiators do not use any CFC's because Ambiators do not use any compressor for cooling air. Ambiator uses ambient air and water to effect cooling of air. Further, the toxic gas emissions of Ambiators is lesser than conventional Air conditioners. TERI has done a comprehensive evaluation of these.

How does Ambiator facilitate Indoor Air quality (IAQ)?
Regular air conditioners recycle the room air. A good installation typically has about 5 to 10% fresh air injected into the room. Thus at best, in an air conditioned room, the occupant gets only about 5 to 10% fresh air. In several cases of air conditioner installation, the occupants suffer from lack of adequate fresh air.

In the case of Ambiators, 100% of the air pumped into the room is fresh. Ambiator continuously sucks in fresh air, filters the air of any impurities, cools the same. This cool air is distributed into the room

Thus with Ambiators the problem of IAQ is eliminated.

Does the Ambiator really save over 50% in Energy expenses compared to the conventional Air conditioner?
The energy consumption of Ambiator is about 40% of the total energy required by Air conditioners. This has been proved in all the applications and projects effected by us.

TERI had evaluated this by monitoring the actual power consumption over a one year period.

Does the cooling get affected due to lower power consumption?
The Ambiators cool air to adequate levels based on the two stage evaporative cooling principles. In several locations and applications Ambiators will cool air upto the level as regular air conditioner.

In high humidity areas Ambiator will not be able to cool to the same levels as in drier areas.

What is the temperature range that is possible to be achieved when using an Ambiator?
This is dependent upon the ambient weather conditions. In most of the places in India, Ambiator would be able to supply air at temperatures between 18 to 23 degree C.

Does the humidity of the indoor air get affected by using Ambiator?
The humidity inside the room is maintained at healthy levels by means of humidistat. The human comfort is dependent on several factors such as temperature, relative humidity, velocity of air movement etc., The relative humidity inside the area is a result of the level of heat generated in the room.

How does Ambiator assist in improving industrial productivity?
Ambiator can be extensively in Industrial ventilation and cooling applications. One can maintain healthy working conditions with 100% fresh air, optimal temperature and comfortable humidity levels with Ambiators.

Above data pertains to American work environment. In the case of India, as a tropical country all Indians get used to higher temperature from child hood. Hence we could take a factor of about 6 to 8 deg. F (our assessment) while taking above data.
